Helping out locally is one of the most effective ways to contribute to your community. This can range from picking up a chocolate bar wrapper off the ground to volunteering at a local charity shop. In September, I contributed to the community by having a voice at a Chichester County Council board meeting. I volunteered to speak about LGBT issues at school, and my voice was heard. That is one way you can help the community. Another way is to help the environment. Locally, The Final Straw Foundation organises beach cleaning events. You go to places like Witterings Beach or Hayling Island. It's a great way to help the planet and also enjoy a fun social event to fill your weekend calendar! I asked five of my friends how they help out locally! Here are their answers.
Nick, aged 13 said: “I am starting my Duke of Edinburgh Award at school.” They also stated some ways that youth members of the community can help out: “Some ways that youth can help out are litter picking, supporting the elderly in care homes, scout groups and working at a local stable.”
Libby, age 13 said: “I would love to do some beach cleans!”
Georgia, age 13 said: “I would love to take part in some activities locally.” she also spoke about how doing sponsored runs/walks to any activity and raising money for charity is a great idea to help out a local charity!
Contributing to anything is a great deed, even if that is just squirting the icing on someones cake. Why don’t you, this weekend, be that person and go help out somewhere. Good luck and don’t forget to have fun :)
I hope (once again) that this article has inspired you to get involeved locally, whatever age you come as :)
